Q. What is Polymer Environmental Resin PER®?
A. Polymer environmentally friendly resin PER® is an environmentally friendly, non toxic and carcinogen free alternative to PVC. PER® is manufactured from a combination of PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) which is a form of polyester, like clothing fabric, and Palm Oil. The production of PER® requires more processing steps than the production of standard PVC for anti slip fabrics; however, the additional processing steps required for PER® produce a far more environmentally friendly option.

Q. What is the difference between PER® and PVC?
A. It is notable that PER® uses Palm Oil as a plasticiser, rather than phthalate plasticizers* in order to achieve the flexibility which is required. Given this fact, it can be seen that the carcinogenic effects are minimized in this way from exposure to carcinogens.

*Phthalate Plasticizer’s: The definition of a plasticiser is a substance added to another material to make it softer and more flexible, typically in flexible plastic materials. Phthalate’s are chemical softeners considered to be carcinogenic, toxic to humans and the environment.

Given all of these benefits, PER® is also successful in fulfilling the desirable qualities of PVC. PER® is non-slip, water proof and sun protective just as PVC is. These qualities allow PER® to be a suitable and environmentally friendly replacement for most PVC products.

Q. Is PER® - Polymer Environmental Resin Biodegradable?

A. Yes PER® is biodegradable. It will not decompose in normal use or by itself; it must be buried in soil where the erosion takes place through the natural soil bacteria and soil enzymes. In formal testing (PIDC – ISO14855-1 Controlled Aerobic Composting Test) after 6 months the fabric had decomposed by 30%.
